Turning on storefront chat

Updated Oct 18, 2026

Storefront chat puts the Aigento chat launcher on your Shopify store, so
shoppers can message you without leaving the page. Their conversations arrive
in Aigento as tickets.

The launcher is a Shopify app embed called Aigento chat. Shopify
leaves app embeds switched off after you install an app, so there is one step
to take in your theme.

Switch it on

  1. Open the theme editor from any of these:
    • Settings → Channels → Add it to your site → Shopify stores in
Aigento: click Open the theme editor on your store's card.
    • The setup wizard's channels step, once your store is connected: click
      Turn on storefront chat.
    • The Aigento app inside your Shopify admin: in the Storefront chat
      section, click Enable storefront chat.
  2. The theme editor opens your current theme with Aigento chat switched
on. Check the preview, then click Save.

Shopify keeps app embeds per theme. If you later publish a different theme,
switch Aigento chat on in that theme too.

Check that it is live

Aigento records when the chat last loaded on your store. A preview in the
theme editor counts as a load.

  • Settings → Channels, on your store's card, shows Seen on your
    storefront
with how long ago, or Not seen yet. Your store's row under
Where customers reach you at the top of the page reads Live if the
chat loaded in the last 7 days. The time updates at most once an hour.
  • The Aigento app in your Shopify admin shows a Live badge if the chat
loaded in the last 7 days. Otherwise it shows Not seen yet, or Not
    seen in 7 days
    if it loaded before that.
  • The Turn on storefront chat item on your setup checklist is ticked off
while the chat has loaded in the last 7 days, the same window as the Live
badge. If it has not loaded for longer than that, the item opens again.

Aigento cannot read your theme's settings, so these show only whether the chat
has loaded. They never report the embed as switched off.

Where to change how it looks

  • In Aigento (Settings → Channels → Chat widget → Appearance): panel
title, launcher label, accent colour, position and privacy policy link. The
greeting, shown when visitors must give an email, is under
Conversations in the same section. These apply to
every storefront and every website widget; change them, then click Save
    in the bar that appears.
  • In the theme editor (the Aigento chat embed's settings): the corner,
extra space from the bottom and from the side, and custom CSS. Use these when
another app's button already sits in the same corner. A corner chosen here
overrides the position set in Aigento.

Pause chat on all Shopify storefronts, under Advanced in Settings →
Channels → Add it to your site → Shopify stores, hides the launcher everywhere at once, without
changing your theme.

If the chat does not appear

  • If the store's card says A storefront was blocked, the chat was
requested from an address Aigento does not recognise as your store. If that
address really is your storefront, for example a headless front end, add it
under Additional storefront addresses. Enter an exact HTTPS address, such
as https://shop.example.com, with no path and no wildcards. Wildcard
entries such as https://*.example.com exist for website widgets, as the
article Putting the contact form on your website explains; only storefront
    addresses must be exact.
  • If it says Shopify has not told us your storefront domain, reconnect the
store from Settings → Integrations, or add your storefront address as above.

Chats from a store are filed into that store's own scope. Its card shows which
one.
