Adding Aigento chat to your website
Updated Oct 23, 2026
Aigento's chat button works on any website, not only on Shopify. You paste one
snippet into your site's HTML, and a chat launcher appears in the corner of
every page that has it. Visitors' conversations arrive in your Aigento inbox
as tickets.
On a Shopify store you don't need a snippet: turn on the Aigento chat app
embed instead (see Turning on storefront chat).
1. Add your website
- Go to Settings → Channels → Add it to your site → Websites.
- If you have no website yet, the form to add one is already open; otherwise
click Add a website. - Enter Your website address, for example
example.com, check the
Name Aigento fills in from it, and click Add website.
Aigento saves the address with https:// and without any path. When you
enter example.com it also adds www.example.com, or the other way round,
because they are different addresses. The chat only runs on the addresses the
website lists.
2. Copy the snippet
- The website's Edit window opens once you add it; later, click Edit
on its row. - Next to Snippet, click Add to website.
- Keep Chat button selected and click Copy snippet.
The snippet is one <script> tag that carries your website's public key.
3. Paste it into your site
Paste the snippet just before </body> on every page that should show the
chat. Most site builders and themes have a place for code that goes on every
page, often called "custom code", "footer code" or "scripts"; putting it
there adds the chat everywhere at once.
Load a page of your site. The launcher appears in the corner, and the
website's row in Aigento changes from Not seen yet to Live · seen with
the time a page last loaded it.
Make it look like your brand
The chat's look is shared by your Shopify stores and every website. To change
it, go to Settings → Channels → Chat widget and click Edit beside
Default look: the title, the greeting, the launcher label, the accent
colour, the position (Bottom right or Bottom left), a privacy policy
link, the tabs (Chat only or Help & chat) and the featured help
articles, with a live preview beside them.
To give one website its own look, open it with Edit and, next to This
site, click Customize and pick a setting. Everything you don't
customize keeps following the workspace default. Click Save when done.
If another button covers the launcher, such as a cookie banner or another
app's chat, customize Distance from edges: Distance from bottom and
Distance from side move the launcher up and in by that many pixels (0 to
400), and Distance from bottom on phones sets a different height on
screens narrower than 640 px (empty uses the desktop value). The preview
shows the result. Inside the Shopify mobile app, the launcher rises above the
app's tab bar on its own.
To see the chat on a test page before you paste anything, use Try it live
in the website row's ⋯ menu. Chats you start there arrive as real tickets
tagged widget-test, and don't count toward your plan's tickets.
Turn it off or remove it
- Show on your site, in the website's Edit window, switches the chat
off everywhere the snippet is pasted, without touching your site. Switch it
on again to bring it back. - Delete in the ⋯ menu removes the website. Its snippet stops working
right away; its conversations and tickets stay in Aigento. You can't undo
it.
If the chat does not appear
- Check the address. The page must be on one of the website's addresses,
exactly.https://example.comandhttps://shop.example.comare different
addresses; add each one under Addresses → Manage in the Edit
window. For preview sites, one wildcard entry likehttps://*.example.comcovers them (see Putting the contact form on your
website). - Check the switch. Add to website warns under the snippet when the
website is switched off or has no addresses. - Check the snippet is on the page. View the page source and look for
data-aigento-widget-key. A site builder that strips scripts from page
content usually has a separate place for custom code.
Add a contact form too
The same website can show your contact form inside one of its pages. In
Add to website, choose Contact form instead; see Putting the contact
form on your website.
